It may not make sense now(and that does look kinda funny now) when the possibilities look huge, but just look at that talent tree and count the number of skills which were still in the game but were still useless nonethless. If only it weren't so expensive and soul crushing. buffs, debuffs, dispell, a large number of skills which don't require talent specialization, many various medium-long cooldowns, etc. I think the wow skill system kinda crushes the diablo skill system though in terms of depth, in that you'd have at least twice (if not three times) as many abilities you could use in any given pvp situation. I think this is a step in the right direction, maybe it's a good thing afterall because nothing's really changed, it will feel like diablo still in that you will only use like 4-6 skills (some will be passive/ish). 2 years from release pvp builds will, for the most part, be similar/cookie cutterish and the game will be so easy to complete (I'm guessing) with twinked characters that almost any build will "work" in pvm (which isn't so competitive) regardless. It may not make sense now(and that does look kinda funny now) when the possibilities look huge, but just look at that d2 talent tree and count the number of skills which were still in the game but were still useless nonethless. Players will always seek out how to gain an advantage, especially with the number of theory crafters you're going to pick up from wow, the game with no soul. It's still about having the best items combined together with the best builds, just now you apparently don't need quite as much mouse accuracy.

If you don't think there will be cookie cutter builds and skills which are just flat out better than others (say for pvp, aoe dps, or single target dps, or survivability), you're crazy.
